Sports Associations
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the amazing work you have done with my athlete over the last two years in particular. You found a way to connect with her, talk to her, help her find her inner strength, grow her maturity and her belief in herself and she truly has come into her own. We can’t thank you enough for the work you did with her and acknowledge your contribution to her Olympic journey.
Kate Wallis, High Performance Manager | Waverley Gymnastics Centre Inc.
Thank you for the workshop delivered to my team and staff. You have a dynamic style of delivery which keeps everyone engaged to hear the important message we all need to be aware of. All my staff have mentioned it was very timely for us heading in to the 2014 World Championships. We implemented the behaviours immediately over the weekend camp and the athletes have responded in a very positive way by producing exciting united team performances. From the weekend, Aussie Spirit has adopted a genuine optimistic belief of the journey ahead.
Kere Johanson, Australian Women’s Head Coach | Softball Australia
I was in your LEVEL 2 Coaching AFL Seminar last year, and found your presentation and information extremely beneficial and interesting. I have adopted your strength-based approach, and have found not only my playing group have responded, but I have changed the way I am coaching with a more positive mindset.

Professional baseball is a highly competitive environment, filled with negativity and failure. The only way to handle this is through constant optimism and self-belief. Matt Scholes – Positive Sports Coaching, provides many examples of the importance of a positive outlook, while teaching the framework and science behind positive coaching, mentoring and leadership. It was a privilege to listen to this presentation, and a must for any budding coach, captain, CEO or General Manager.
Justin Huber, (Former Major League Baseball player), Participation Manager | Baseball Victoria
I wanted to touch base and thank you for delivering such an engaging and practical presentation last week. This really gave me a insight into just how powerful the positive sports coaching approach can be, especially looking at the model from an athlete’s perspective. Throughout the presentation I continually had flashbacks of both good and bad reflections of coaches I’ve played under over the years.
Jon Shepherd, Regional Coordinator – Eastern Metropolitan 3 – Active After-school Communities | Australian Sports Commission
Thanks for your presentation, the feedback from the conference participants has been extremely positive, just what we needed to start off our week. It really set a “positive” tone for the week, so thanks again.
John Byrnes, Regional Coordinator, Active After-school Communities Program | Australian Sports Commission.
After seeing Matt Scholes’ Positive Sports Coaching presentation at the 2011 AFL State Coaching Conference, I thought the topic would be a terrific addition to Cricket Victoria’s Level 2 Coaching Course Program.
Cricket Victoria has since incorporated Matt’s presentation into its Level 2 Coaching Course content with great success. At our February 2012 Course, the course candidates thoroughly enjoyed the session with Matt, with most seeing the major benefits in implementing a positive cricket coaching frame work.
We look forward to Matt imparting his philosophies on our coaches at future courses.
Jarrad Loughman, Education and Training Manager | Cricket Victoria

Matthew’s Positive sports coaching model gives coaches effective tools to quickly enhance any team’s performance.
Through a tried and tested method of using key phrases to follow “the wheel”, Matthew explains how any coach can improve their teams success using approaches which will create better relationships, better players, and potentially, better people.
S. Inman, Soccer coach, SA
The Positive Sports Coaching course presented by Matthew Scholes demonstrated how a change in coaching focus can get a better response from my players.
Previously, I felt like I spoke to players in a very positive manner however focused on improving their weaknesses too often. This course allowed me to see my players differently, encourage their strengths more often and think more positively about them.
The response was immediate with more confident, receptive and enthusiastic individuals and team as a whole. Their weaknesses improved quicker also. Our team performance improved instantly.
The Positive Sports Coaching Wheel was a very helpful tool also. I can recommend Matthew Scholes and his course to any sporting team.
David Threadgold , Football Coach, SA
Schools & Organisations
The Positive Sports Coaching Model has given our coaches a simple framework to use with their teams that has assisted in building their confidence and helped them to more effectively employ all those great teachable moments that arise in sport. The wellbeing of both the coaches and the students has undoubtedly improved through the use of several simple yet powerful strategies
Andrew Lincoln, Head of Psychology and Positive Education | Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School
Feedback from your presentation has been terrific, so thank you for making the effort. You hit the brief perfectly and the connection between your presentation and what we are trying to build here was spot on! I am sure everyone will make an effort to include some aspects of positive psychology in their behaviour moving forward; even if it is to cut down on the number of amygdala hijackings we all have!!
Dean Templeton, General Manager | Converse
Thank you so much for letting me interview you yesterday! I learned a lot about sports coaching that I didn’t know. And the way you use positive psychology in that field is really interesing.
It will be very useful in my PhD and at the Department of Sports at the uni back in Denmark.
Ebbe Lavendt, Authorized psychologist, MAPP Institute of Coaching | Harvard Medical School
The workshop was fantastic and has resulted in a definite change in attitude. The week following the conference 3 people from my team sent emails or text message to tell me how they had implemented what they had learned.
For some this was just remembering what went well following a face to face call with a doctor and for others this looking beyond the issues/concerns the doctor was raising and helping to guide the conversation onto positive experiences using the products.
It is rare to see this kind of immediate change so you definitely had a positive impact.
